Legislature, SRS Debate Office Closures

A legislative committee is seeking further information on the closure of nine offices by the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.  The Department contends that it is merely complying with the Legislature’s mandate to apply administrative cuts and that the closures are the most cost-effective way to manage reduced funding levels while maintaining access to services.  However, key legislators disagree, claiming that the cuts were to be found at the Topeka level and not at local offices, and that the closures will limit access to essential services.
